Dot is a long standing community member who loves to talk and engage with everyone. She’s full of knowledge and enthusiasm, a brief chat highlights what’s been good, what she likes and what has grown this year from her point of view.
What has been good about garden this year? I like company, like-minded company, I didn’t get here much because of looking after my disabled husband, but when I do get here there’s a lovely warm welcome, always something needing to be done, somebody wanting to find something out, so its good fun.
What I like about our garden, and all gardens is being out in the fresh air and growing things.
Best thing event, or thing, that happened this year for me is hard, I’ve been so busy this year, I don’t know that! This is somewhere I know I can come back to, and enjoy.
How has it changed over the years? This year there is more organisation, I think as someone had time to dedicate to running it who hasn’t had lots of other things to do. There’s been more systematic cropping, also drawing on knowledge of those in garden with horticultural experience, and know about growing certain things.
People are bringing existing knowledge too, this is what makes a difference, and people have developed enthusiasm, there’s the usual burdens on their mind, but people find gardening fun and exciting, someone often goes down to poundland and looks for the best specimens of the grotty plants they have their, [chuckle] and has nurtured several fruiting shrubs into lovely growth and enjoyed the experience.
